Art Call for Antiquated & Future (or Imaginary) Technologies II

The Irma Freeman Center for Imagination
5006 Penn Avenue, Garfield, Pittsburgh 15224

This theme was so popular last year that we decided to make it an annual event during the GA/GI Festival. This Art Call is therefore an invitation for artists to participate in the upcoming exhibition at the Irma Freeman Center for Imagination: Antiquated and Future (or Imaginary) Technologies II. This will be a group show, where artists are invited to enter up to three pieces of found/collected or constructed Technology. The idea of technology may include plans, kinetic/robotic or other objects, such as video, film, posters, prints, paintings, installations, state of the art, green, DIY or preexisting, obsolete or dying technologies. All art or artifacts must be accompanied by a biography of the artist/collector, and an Artist Statement of how the submission(s) relates to the above theme. Be aware that the statement and the biography may be edited as deemed appropriate or necessary by the curator, Sheila Ali. Also, all documents should be submitted through email as well as hardcopy.

DROP OFF:
The deadline for this exhibition is March 20th at 5 pm at 5006 Penn Avenue. The gallery will be accepting proposals and artwork from 2 – 5 pm Sunday March 20th. Pittsburgh Art and Artists Blog

This blog was created to be a space where Pittsburgh galleries, curators, artists, art critics and patrons alike can network and discuss Pittsburgh art. Pittsburgh is a vibrant city where in the last several years the art scene has been exploding with galleries and art happenings. Yet, in retrospect, with only a few local newspapers, Pittsburgh media can, at most, afford to give only very limited exposure to any one artist or gallery. This blog is, therefore, meant to be a forum for Pittsburgh art, and a virtual meeting ground for artists and curators. Previous to this blog, no matter how much curators and artists tried to publicize their efforts, local newspapers, in all fairness, could not cover a particular gallery more than once or twice a year, if at all. Even more disappointing is the absence of art reviews for small galleries, and even large ones. Thus, contrary to what seemed to be accepted as the natural order of things, or “the survival of the fittest”, this Blog encourages Pittsburgh art critics to review Pittsburgh art, and Pittsburgh galleries and artists to publish their own art related announcements. With this blog, I am attempting to give Pittsburgh artists and curators an outlet for all their hard work. Typically, Pittsburgh art exhibitions have come and gone without any public discussion. For this reason, I want to emphasize that this blog is especially dedicated to creating a virtual space for writers to publish their reviews of art in and around Pittsburgh. This blog is also meant to be a online gathering place for the public, as wells as people in the arts, to make connections and utilize links between Pittsburgh artist, gallery and art advocacy web sites, web pages and blogs. Furthermore, with this blog, I want to create a space where the Pittsburgh art community can grow, and where patrons of the arts can see what’s happening in Pittsburgh’s cultural “underground”.  (Note: The comments submitted to this blog are not meant to represent the views of its creator or of the blog itself.)
